Using methods of abstraction and fragmentation, Jieun Ha’s paintings make oblique rather than didactic references to sourced objects. By breaking the initial logic of a consumable, her work translates the familiarity of objects into a mood or landscape through a poetic sequence of abstraction. Departing from their intended functionality and introducing a sense of place and state of mind, the source remains partially concealed whilst expanding the meaning of assemblage painting.
Jieun Ha (b. 2000) received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting) from the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne (2020) and is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) at Monash University, Melbourne.
